Campus housing

St. John’s University offers on-campus housing in their dormitories. All housing will be on the St. John’s campus (campus map). Dorm rooms are connected to suites. Suites each have 3 or 4 rooms, a common area with mini-fridge and microwave, and two bathrooms.

Each room can accommodate one or two people. You can choose roommates and suite-mates, or they will be assigned. St. John’s allows you to choose mixed-gender rooms and suites (including non-binary), as well as for married couples and families to share rooms or suites.

General information about campus housing is on the St. John’s website. In 2024, most HOPE accommodations were in the Freshman locations, but the selection of buildings for 2025 has not yet been confirmed by the University.

HOPE Conference Housing Rates

Accommodations include the required university ID card and linen packet.

Visit the St. John’s summer housing page to register for housing. St. John’s suggests using the Google Chrome browser for the smoothest experience.

STEP 1: Create an account by clicking “New Users Register Here” (You must create a login in order to register). If you registered in 2024, your login should still work, and you can send a password reset link by email if needed.

STEP 2: Once you have successfully registered, click the link reading “St. John’s StormCard Registration”

STEP 3: Enter Group Code: HOPE25

STEP 4: Upload the required photo. Be sure to follow photo specifications listed.

STEP 5: Select your dates and either a single or double occupancy (1 or 2 beds). Note that the latest checkout is August 17, the last day of HOPE. Late checkout is available. You can register to check-in as early as Tuesday, August 12th. If you are requesting to check-in even earlier than that, contact csevents@stjohns.edu.

STEP 6: Pay for your housing by credit card.

STEP 7 (optional): If you are choosing roommates or suitemates, email csevents@stjohns.edu with everyone’s names. Everyone needs to get their own university guest card, since this photo ID is how you get into the dorm buildings and rooms. Payment and other details can be arranged by phone or email, such as if one person is paying for others.

Hotels

HOPE secured a good deal with the adjoining Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott. These are a quick bus ride or drive to St. John's and adjoin a dive bar that has been a HOPE favourite for after-hours gathering.

Getting to Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott

From JFK Airport

A taxi or rideshare will typically take around 20 minutes.

You can use the JFK Airtrain which will get you to Jamaica Center for $8.25 (the OMNY card will work here, but this fare won’t count towards the weekly cap). From there, catch the Q30 or Q31 bus on the corner of Sutphin Boulevard & Archer Avenue (adjacent to the Long Island Railroad building) to Utopia Parkway & Horace Harding Expressway (around 25 minutes). The bus will drop you off across the street from the hotels. Since that street happens to be the Long Island Expressway, you’ll have to walk under the overpass, cross the street, and make a right. The hotels will be two blocks away. The whole walk will take around 3 minutes.

From LaGuardia Airport

A taxi or rideshare will typically take less than 15 minutes.

You can get to HOPE for a single bus/subway fare by taking the free Q70 bus to the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue subway stop (around 10 minutes). From there, take the F train to 169th Street (less than 20 minutes). Exit onto Hillside Avenue. You can either take the Q17 at Hillside Avenue & 171st Street to Horace Harding Expressway & 185th Street (under 20 minutes) which is directly outside the hotels. Or you can transfer to the Q30 Q31 bus on Hillside Avenue & Homelawn Street to Utopia Parkway & Horace Harding Expressway (under 15 minutes). The bus will drop you off across the street from the hotels. Since that street happens to be the Long Island Expressway, you’ll have to walk under the overpass, cross the street, and make a right. The hotels will be two blocks away. The whole walk will take around 3 minutes.

Other Airports

A taxi or rideshare will typically take around an hour from Newark Liberty or Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Your trip from here will be longer with mass transit. From Newark Liberty Airport, take the Newark Airport Airtrain to Penn Station in Manhattan. From there, take the Long Island Railroad to Jamaica (around 20 minutes). If you’re coming from Long Island MacArthur Airport, simply get to the adjacent Ronkonkoma train station and take the Long Island Railroad to Jamaica. Head downstairs to street level and catch the Q30 or Q31 bus on the corner of Sutphin Boulevard & Archer Avenue (adjacent to the Long Island Railroad building). Take that to Utopia Parkway & Horace Harding Expressway (about 25 minutes). The bus will drop you off across the street from the hotels. Since that street happens to be the Long Island Expressway, you’ll have to walk under the overpass, cross the street, and make a right. The hotels will be two blocks away. The whole walk will take around 3 minutes.

Driving

From the Long Island Expressway, take Exit 25 (Utopia Parkway). Make a left on Utopia Parkway (a right if coming from points east), then a sharp right onto Booth Memorial Avenue (right before 58th Avenue). Turn right onto 185th Street and Horace Harding Expressway. The hotels will be on your right.

From HOPE

Take the Q46 bus from right outside Gate 4 to Union Turnpike & 188th Street and transfer to the Q17 bus (same corner but on the 188th Street side). Take that to Horace Harding Expressway & 185th Street which is directly outside the hotels. NOTE: These buses run around the clock but far less frequently after midnight.

You can also take the Q30 or Q31 bus from the southeastern corner of Union Turnpike & Utopia Parkway to Utopia Parkway & Horace Harding Expressway, but it will drop you off across the street from the hotels. Since that street happens to be the Long Island Expressway, you’ll have to walk under the overpass, cross the street, and make a right. The hotels will be two blocks away. The whole walk will take around 3 minutes. NOTE: The last bus on these routes is 12:30 am.

Getting to HOPE from Hotels

Take the Q30 bus from the bus stop right outside the hotels (Horace Harding Expressway & 185th Street). Get off at Union Turnpike & Utopia Parkway. Cross Union Turnpike, make a right, and walk to Gate 4.
